Welcome to the Midwest Azure Cloud Computing User Group!

Welcome, all!

My name is Bryce Calhoun, and I am your regional host for the MWCCUG. Thank you for joining the group, and I look forward to meeting each of you over the coming months as we conduct our regional user group meetings in Chicago.

Our meetings will be hosted in alternate months in the Microsoft downtown and Downers Grove offices, so please don't hesitate to click on the "events" link at the top to find out more about the meeting we have coming up next.

Our goal for this group is to help everyone understand the features, functionality and value of the Azure platform, and what it takes to develop and deploy applications to the cloud.

If you have any questions regarding the group, its purpose or what our long-term agenda will be, don't hesitate to reach out at any time either via this site or directly to: bryce.calhoun@neudesic.com.

Thanks again!

Regards,

Bryce Calhoun

I got a wonderful opportunity to meet and talk with the world's leading experts of Cloud Computing and its technologies in the Cloudslam 09 conference that was the 1st annual and virtual conference on Cloud computing.

I posted a short synopsis of the meeting on my blog, with a link to much more detailed information on Dave Bost's blog. It's a new blog site I recently started, so there isn't a whole lot of content yet. http://www.craigsexpression.com/craigexpress/post/2009/08/11/Cloud-Computing-and-Azure-and-MEBA.aspx

Great presentations last night from Dave Bost and Jack Greenfield on Multi-Enterprise Business Applications. Looks like it should have a big impact on the future of business.

It will be May 27th in Downers Grove. I will be creating an Event on this site that reflects that, as well as the topic to be discussed.

Wade, thanks a lot. I'll definitely check that resource out.

Trevor - if you're looking for a good introduction to the Azure Services Platform (of which Windows Azure is a part), I'd encourage you to take a look at http://www.microsoftpdc.com/ - these are recordings from PDC 2008. Specifically, I'd recommend "BB01 A Lap Around the Azure Services Platform" by John and Dennis. After this, watch "ES16 A Lap Around Windows Azure" by Manuvir. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

The introductory meeting was in December in this region, and the upcoming meeting will focus primarily on cloud storage. We'll still touch on how Azure "works" in general, but the emphasis will be on how an application hosted in the cloud works with when interacting with data that lives in the cloud as well.

Hmmm, has there already been an Introduction to Azure meeting in Chicago? I see there are other introductory meetings being held, in the near future, but they are in other major cities nationwide.

Wind blows when the land gets unevenly heated up by the sun making the air just above the land, rise and expand. When the hot air above the land expands, its place is filled in by the heavier and cooler air above it. This makes the wind blow. So as…
