Creating a raytracing renderer as a grid computing service on Azure.

Hi Everyone,

Firstly I'd like You to forgive me my bad english.

I am a student, and I have to write master thesis project.
I'm interrested in Azure and cloud computing, so an idea occurred to me to make a project that would use cloud computing. I'd like to make a raytracing renderer as a grid computing service which would work in the cloud, and the same renderer which would work on single computer. The goal is to show the difference in speed. This is my idea... I do not know how to deal with this as for now, but I'd like to know what do you think about my idea? I'm posting here becouse the main idea is to use Cloud Computing.

I think it's a very interesting concept. One thing you'll want to research is your ability to scale in Windows Azure today -- with a 'free' CTP account, there is a limit to how many instances you can spin up, so you'd want to make sure you have the capability of scaling out enough to create a legitimate scenario as compared to a single machine with multiple cores/procs. You might be able to talk with Microsoft about being able to spin up more machines, but as the production release approaches (Jan 2010), it will be harder for them to be able to give away more machines for free. I am not speaking for Microsoft in this case.

Hi Wojciech. You might take a look at a grid computing framework I wrote for Azure called AzureGrid. You can get it at http://azuregrid.codeplex.com.

Wind blows when the land gets unevenly heated up by the sun making the air just above the land, rise and expand. When the hot air above the land expands, its place is filled in by the heavier and cooler air above it. This makes the wind blow. So as…
